Substantive or structural editing is sometimes referred to as 'heavy' editing. It often involves restructuring and rewording.

Copyediting removes mistakes, inconsistencies and other errors.

Proofreading is the final level of checking and correcting before publication. It is only available if your work has been professionally copyedited.

About

ABOUT ME

My love of words and attention to detail makes me a great editor. I'm especially good at editing for clarity and improving flow, but I'm just as good at knowing where the comma goes!

I studied history at university and loved it so much I did a PhD. I still occasionally work as a historian, but these days I mostly edit academic books, which means I get to read fascinating accounts of intriguing people, places and events.

I am an accredited editor with the Institute of Professional Editors, so you can be confident that your writing is in good hands. I am also a published academic author, which means that I know how important your writing is to you and how hard you've worked to get it to the stage of needing an editor.

Some of my books include:

Rani Kerin, Making A Difference: Fifty Years of Indigenous Programs at Monash University, Melbourne: Monash University Publishing, 2016.

Rani Kerin, Doctor Do-Good: Charles Duguid and Aboriginal Advancement, 1930s-1960s, Melbourne: Australian Scholarly Publishing, 2011.

Rani was very thorough yet flexible in her approach, and she was always extremely quick to respond to e-mails. All of this made the copyediting process very smooth, and allowed us to complete the task within a very tight time frame.  Thank you, Rani!
